On Thursday the 6th March, staff and pupils celebrated World Book Day. Themes were taken from different books across the school and the children took part in fun activities.

Children in Year 6 made revolting recipes inspired by Roald Dahl. Children in Key Stage 1 were Oompa Loompas for the day and made 'Fairtrade Chocolate Crispies'.

Many staff and children dressed up as a character from a book. All children received £1 World Book Day tokens which can be exchanged for books.

Earlier in the year our Parent Support Advisor, Nicola Deamer, met up with Nigel Mainpriz from the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Young Carers Project.

Nicloa recognised the value of the project which provides support for children and young people who have significant responsibilities at home and who undertake a caring role, whether it be carrying out physical tasks for example cooking, cleaning, looking after brothers/ sisters or providing emotional support for a parent or relative.

As 75% of 'Young Carers' go unrecognised at school and receive no support in their caring role, it was felt that it was important to raise awareness within school. so that we as a school can provide support to those children who may have significant caring responsibilities at home.

Nigel has recently visited school to raise staff awareness of 'Young Carers' and has given an assembly presentation to all our pupils. Our pupils are now aware that if they recognise themselves as a 'Young Carer' they can approach either Mr Scrimshaw, Mrs Asquith or Nicola Deamer (PSA) who will endeavour to provide support within school and will be sensitive to family circumstances.

We have had quite a lot of interest in school fleeces.

The representative from the company came to see me this week and I was impressed with the quality of the garments.

As a first order I was only allowed to order 20, and as they have to put our school logo on to their machines it will take about two weeks for the first batch to be ready.

As soon as these are delivered I will contact the people who are interested in buying one.

I will be placing another order so if you are interested please call in the office after half term.
